Architectural firm Arons & Gelauff from Amsterdam is the force behind the design of Cruquius 1.3. "The architecture refers to the maritime and industrial past of Cruquius. This immediately brings to mind dark bricks, but we wanted to create buildings that are light and expressive, which fit in well with the rest of the buildings on Cruquius Island. We achieved this by giving the buildings characteristic ‘shed roofs’. The sawtooth shape, familiar from old factories, can be seen from a distance."
